Steiff Rough Rider commemorates the 150th anniversary of the birth of Theodore Roosevelt (born 27th October 1858) and who became the 26th President of the USA 1901-1909 and after whom the "teddy" bear got his name. In 1898 Teddy Roosevelt founded a rough and ready cavalier regiment from volunteers made up of East Coast upper class gentlemen and swashbuckling cowboys from the wild west. The volunteer regiment fought in the Spanish - American war and became known as the Rough Riders. After a costly victory in Cuba, Roosevelt became a war hero and a little later the President.
This limited edition ensemble is based on a life size model of Theodore Roosevelt dressed in the "rough rider" uniform and sitting on his rearing horse and made by Steiff in 1958 for the festival parade in Giengen for the 100th anniversary of Teddy Roosevelt.
Teddy bear is made of high-quality cream alpaca. He is a five-jointed 18cm/7" bear which is hard packed. He is removable from the horse and is surface washable.
White/ brown flecked Horse is made of finest mohair and and stands 30cm/12" high. Hard packed and fixed in his prancing stance, the horse is surface washable.
